To achieve a smooth mirror-like finish on MDF, particle board, or plywood substrates, processing parameters must be carefully managed. High gloss films are highly sensitive to dust and substrate imperfections. Below is the recommended technical roadmap for lamination:
Ensure the core MDF or particle board is finely sanded (recommended grit size 240-320). Substrate moisture content should be maintained within a stable range of 6% to 8%.
Polyurethane Reactive (PUR) adhesives are highly recommended. Apply between 60g/m² to 90g/m² depending on substrate porosity. Maintain adhesive temperature between 130°C and 150°C.
Adjust line tension on the roller lamination machine to prevent stretching the film. Stretched films can experience shrinkage over time, leading to edge pulling.
